Great review! In addition, Eric Wargo and I speculated on the link between the Black Madonna and causal “time loops” in Future Fossils #117. Linking the colors of three magical fluids – black, red, and white – we get the three faces of the Morrígan, celtic goddess of transformation, in her three archetypal roles as maiden, mother, and crone. But we also get the Red & White Queens of Lewis Carroll’s Through the Looking-Glass, and their attendant evolutionary philosophies: the Red Queen hypothesis of evolutionary arms races and the (to my knowledge as yet formally unarticulated) White Queen hypothesis of evolution proceeding within a glass block Minkowski spacetime in which the future already exists and memory extends in both “directions.” Wargo goes a step further, linking premonitory information reflux with the “dark-haired girl” archetype that formed a refrain in Freud’s work before getting promoted to the anima by Jung. This hardly feels like a stretch when we consider how frequently the Three Fates are depicted as a blonde, brunette, and redhead.
